RTEAN deploys technology to reduce highway kidnapping, ease passengers’ movement
Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has deployed an end-to-end technology to help reduce cash transactions in transport operations and improve public security.
Speaking at the launch of the platform tagged “RTEAN Karrygo” developed by DiGIX Technologies Limited in partnership with Wema bank on Wednesday in Abuja, President of RTEAN, Musa Maitakobi, said the technology will provide a seamless financial transaction process for the transiting Nigerians, in line with the present cashless policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Maitakobi who was represented by his deputy, Muhammad Bushara, said the association had been known for introducing programmes and policies that impact positively on the lives of its members and the general public.
He said: “This programme during implementation will put in check issues of insecurity, as all information about the traveller’s final destinations would have been collated from the electronic or digital manifest generated in the cause of processing their payment for the journey.
“We will also have fast ticket purchasing and boarding, spontaneous travel and motivate the use of public transport, eliminate fraud and improve accountability will automatically issue e-receipt via SMS to eliminate paper ticket sales, among others.
“It is our hope that when this programme comes into full implementation, a lot more sanity would have been enthroned in the road transport sector in Nigeria. And after this official launching, all our members across the country will be properly trained on what should be done to achieve greater results.”
Founder/Director, DiGIX Technologies Limited, Damola Akindolire observed that the platform would position the Nigeria’s public transport ahead of its peers in Africa and reinforce the country’s status as a leader in the continent.
noting that though Nigeria is not the first on the African continent to digitized its public transportation system, but “being Africa’s largest economy the multiplier effect of moving a million passengers through cashless means would have a larger effect on the growth of our economy.”
He said: “The benefits of this program cannot be over-emphasized it is in line with the transformation plan of the Muhammed Buhari administration and appeals to the youthful population of our country.
“In the area of security reduce kidnapping and cost of doing business.
It will also help Nigeria meet its objective for accelerated economic growth because an efficient and modern payment system is positively correlated with economic development, and is a key enabler for economic growth”.
