Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the weekend, performed the groundbreaking ceremony of the Lagos Medipark aimed at addressing critical gaps in the nation’s healthcare system.

The project, designed to foster public-private collaboration, is expected to drive investment in healthcare infrastructure and boost the state’s capacity to deliver quality medical services. Sanwo-Olu emphasised the importance of fostering an environment conducive to investment and development.

According to him, the Medipark project reflects the core purpose of governance, creating opportunities for citizens and enabling the private sector to drive economic growth.

Sanwo-Olu also reiterated his administration’s commitment to removing barriers to ensure the project’s success and creating an investor-friendly environment to drive projects like the Medipark.

On his part, the Chairman of Lagos Medipark, Fola Adeola, described the ambitious project as a transformative investment in healthcare infrastructure and a critical step towards addressing Nigeria’s pressing need for equitable access to quality healthcare.

“As a nation, we face an acute hospital bed deficit and a growing demand for specialised healthcare services. With a 140-bed multi-specialist hospital, a state-of-the-art diagnostics centre, and integrated support facilities, Lagos Medipark aims to bridge this gap.

“The vision is multifaceted: reducing medical tourism, equipping our healthcare workforce with world-class training, and creating an environment that nurtures both patients and professionals.

Also, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Iwosan Investments and IASO Medipark, Fola Laoye, described the project as a culmination of a four-year journey driven by the visionary leadership of the state government.

Laoye noted the unique features of the Medipark project, which include reserving 20 per cent of hospital beds for the state’s indigent population, adding that the critical provision was made possible by the Lagos State Government’s efforts to ensure inclusive healthcare.

“This initiative not only demonstrates the government’s commitment to its people but also sets a benchmark for what PPPs can achieve in the healthcare sector,” she said.
