Sanwo-Olu signs Lagos electricity bill into law
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially signed the 2024 Lagos Electricity Bill into law, setting the stage for a revolution in power supply across the state.
The signing of the bill, yesterday, at the State House in Ikeja, was witnessed by the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat; Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Energy, Sabur Oluwa; Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, alongside other prominent stakeholders from both the public and private sectors.
Sanwo-Olu, who described the bill as a transformative blueprint for energy equity, economic growth, and environmental sustainability, emphasised its alignment with Lagos State’s commitment to fostering progress and improving living standards for all residents.
He described the law as a paradigm shift that would reshape the power landscape in Lagos, making consistent electricity a reality for both businesses and households.
The signing of this legislation reinforces Lagos State’s position as a leader in sustainable energy solutions and a key driver of the Greater Lagos Rising vision.
Sanwo-Olu, therefore, expressed his firm belief that the new law would fuel Lagos growth as a 24-hour economy, especially benefiting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
The governor also spoke about the wider vision behind the law, aiming to create a safe and secure environment where residents could walk the streets at night without fear.
