Settle NASU, SSANU members urgently, NLC tells govt
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged the Federal Government to speedily pay up outstanding salaries of members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational (NASU) and Associated Institutions and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).
A statement by NLC President, Joe Ajaero, yesterday, advised the government not to take for granted the maturity of the unions, stating that there has been no credible reason or explanation for withholding the pay in the first place.
Recalling how the singular act has plunged the workers into “indescribable hardship,” he said much worse, was when it defies logic to try to subject members of the unions to discriminatory treatment.
According to him, the action portrayed the government as courting avoidable industrial disputes.
Ajaero lamented that this was coming at a time when confidence was being restored to the public universities.
