Mary Ukech, a 23-year-old South Sudanese model, has captured the hearts of the fashion world with her remarkable journey from the Kakuma Refugee Camp in northwest Kenya to the global runways. Skimmer Isaac, a visionary model agent and entrepreneur, spotted Ukech shortly after her high school graduation in 2020, while she was pursuing her studies in Clinical Child Neuropsychology in Nairobi, Kenya. The decision to put her education on hold and pursue modeling was a daunting one, but Ukech embraced the challenge. “I told myself I was only going to try it for a few months, and if it didn’t work, I was going to come back and finish my education,” Ukech recalled. However, her modeling career took off rapidly, leading to her signing with IMG Worldwide in the subsequent year.

Recently, IMG Worldwide brought Mary Ukech to her debut at New York Fashion Week, where she graced the runways of prestigious shows, including Rodarte, Khaite and Carolina Herrera. Her presence and success in the international fashion scene are a testament to her talent and determination.
