Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has urged the youth of the state to seize control of their futures, asserting that the time has come for Rivers people to determine their destinies.

Fubara’s comments come amidst heightened political tensions, as lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly have issued a 48-hour ultimatum for the governor to present the 2025 budget, in line with a Supreme Court ruling.

In a speech delivered on Monday during the inauguration of the Government House Staff Quarters in Port Harcourt, the governor declared that he was prepared to pay the supreme price to safeguard the state from those he described as anti-democratic forces.

“No matter how we’ve been fooled in this state, it has gotten to a point when the people have to decide to take their destinies into their hands,” he said.

He said that no matter the adversity or challenges ahead, his leadership would persist in the best interests of the state.

“I will lead you with honor, respect, and integrity, and when I leave office, I want to be able to defend my actions with pride,” Fubara told an audience of government officials and staff.

The governor acknowledged the impact of the Supreme Court ruling that has dampened the spirits of many Rivers residents but urged them to remain resilient.

“We have faced many obstacles, but we are not at the end of our journey. There is more to come,” he said, rallying the people to brace for what lies ahead.

The governor also underscored his stance against violence, making it clear that while he would not tolerate lawlessness, the time for the people of Rivers to take control of their fate had arrived.

“I am not scared of anything. If it requires me to leave office, so be it. The right thing must be done,” he said.

Despite the political unrest, Fubara’s call to action is aimed at motivating the youths, with the governor encouraging them to stand strong in the face of adversity and take ownership of their future.
