Tinubu condoles US govt over jet, helicopter collision
President Bola Tinubu has commiserated with the United States Government over the tragic incident in Washington D.C, which saw an American Airlines jet and a military helicopter collide in midair on Thursday.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic incident in Washington, D.C. On behalf of Nigeria, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the people of the United States, and all affected by this profound loss,” Tinubu said.
“I commend the courageous efforts of first responders and emergency teams for their selfless work in harsh conditions.”
The president said that Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States Government and its people, united in grief and hopeful for a new day.
According to the British Broadcasting Company (BBC), no fewer than 30 bodies have so far been recovered from Washington DC’s Potomac River, following the collision.
The jet was reportedly carrying 60 passengers and four crew members and was approaching the Ronald Reagan National Airport when it crashed. Three soldiers were also in the helicopter.
