President Bola Tinubu has appealed to medical students and practitioners not to leave the country for greener pastures. Tinubu, who said he was working day and night to fix the economy and the health sector, emphasised that in the next few years, no medical doctor would have reasons to leave the country.

The President gave the promise, yesterday, during the commissioning of Thompson Abayomi Oshin Physiotherapy Building at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (UI), which was donated by The Thompson Abayomi Oshin Health and Education Foundation in honour of the 98-year-old first African physiotherapist, Dr Abayomi Oshin.

Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Tunji Alausa, who represented the President, said: “Don’t ‘japa’. The President is working day and night to fix the country. In the next few years, you won’t have reasons to ‘japa’.”

Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships), Prof. Oluyemisi Bambose, said that the dedication of Oshin inspired many scholars and medical doctors, adding that the nonagenarian left indelible marks at the university.

In her remarks, Provost of the college, Prof. Olayinka Omigbodun, said the patriotic and kind gesture of the Oshins were legendary. Also speaking, Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Prof. Jesse Otegbayo, urged young physiotherapists and others to emulate the life of Oshin and make impacts for the benefits of future generations.

The celebrant, Dr Abayomi Oshin, thanked all for their support, while Chairman of the Foundation, Dr Segun Oshin, said the donation was to impact humanity and the society.
