Be positive despite difficulties, Umeh tells Nigerians
The Senator representing Anambra Central District, Dr Victor Umeh, has asked Nigerians to exhibit positive attitudes in the face of the current economic difficulties.
Umeh stated that lawmakers are also impacted by the economic crisis but hopeful that the federal government’s interventions would yield results.
Speaking to reporters in Enugu, Umeh added: “We understand the mood of the times now, things are very difficult. But we are appealing to our people to be patient and see how the programs of government can turn things around.
“We as representatives of the people are the first line of people who receive pressures from our constituents. They call us every hour asking for support and help to cushion the effects of the hardship on families.
“So we know things are very difficult and we are doing everything we can to support the government through the National Assembly to ensure that the government gets what it demands to help it fight this problem in the land. We have done so well in this regard.
“It is on record that there is nothing the president has requested from the National Assembly that he did not get. So we are only praying that his policies will get us the expected reliefs which our people are yearning for.”
The Labour Party (LP) Senator also spoke on the leadership crisis rocking his party, expressing optimism that it would soon be overcome.
He, however, maintained that almost every party in the country is in crisis, and not peculiar to the LP.
“Labour Party is in crisis but it is not peculiar to Labour Party. We have challenges in the party but LP is working hard to resolve all the issues we have,” he said.
“Other parties have their own problems. so we believe that with time, we will overcome these challenges.”
