Tragedy as palm tree kills 40-year-old farmer in Ogun

Ogun State police command has confirmed the death of a farmer, Abdullahi Rasaki, after a palm tree fell on him.
Police spokesman, Omolola Odutola, in a statement, disclosed that the deceased and one Waheed Abbas had gone to Egbe Semi Jeje area of Oke Sopen, Ijebu Igbo, to cut palm trees when one of the trees accidentally fell on the deceased.
Odutola stated that Abdullahi screamed in pain for help, and neighbors in the vicinity rushed to remove the falling tree on him and was immediately taken to General Hospital, Sagamu, where he died.
His corpse has been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The police spokesperson added that the case was being investigated by the Divisional Crime Branch (DCB) to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The Ogun State Police Command extends its condolences to the family of the deceased and urges the public to take necessary precautions while engaging in tree felling and farming activities to avoid similar tragedies,” Odutola said.
Relatedly, a pedestrian, whose name, age, and address remain unknown, was knocked down while crossing the road by a reckless motorcyclist rider in the Lafenwa area of the state.
Odutola stated that a tragic accident occurred on March 9, 2025, at about 7:00 PM, along Lafenwa Road, Abeokuta, involving a TVS motorcycle Reg. No. Ogun GBE 566 VC, ridden by one 25-year-old Kabiru Sanni 25 years of Agbo Afoju, Sabo, Abeokuta.
According to Odutola, the deceased sustained a severe head injury and was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi Aba, Abeokuta, where she passed on while receiving treatment.
The Police urged motorcycle riders and road users to adhere strictly to traffic laws to prevent avoidable road accidents.
