Troops recover 1,913 weapons in Taraba
The 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has confirmed the recovery of no fewer than 1,913 weapons within its areas of responsibility over the past year.
The announcement was made on Thursday at the Brigade headquarters in Jalingo during the visit of Major General Eyitayo Folusho Oyinlola, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Operation Safe Haven.
Brigade Commander Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, through the Brigade’s spokesperson Captain Oni Olubodunde, provided a detailed list of the recovered weapons.
The recovered weapons, as reeled out by him, include 34AK-47 riffles, five locally fabricated pistols, six pump action shotguns, one locally made gun, one Browning gun, and one rocket-propelled grenade launcher.
Other recovered arms include five locally fabricated submachine guns, 15 single barrel guns, one double barrel gun, one PKMG, one locally fabricated AK-47 riffle, one locally fabricated revolver, and one hand grenade.
Additionally, the troops said it seized 970 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 41 rounds of 9mm pistol rounds, 59 rounds of 7.6mm NATO ammunition, 84 rounds of M16 ammunition, and 84 Shotgun cartridges.
Expressing satisfaction with the Brigade’s efforts, Maj. Gen. Oyinlola commended the troops and urged them to intensify operations against criminal elements in the state.
He emphasized the military’s commitment to restoring peace across Taraba and ensuring that banditry and other security threats are effectively neutralized.
During a briefing with the state governor Agbu Kefas, the GOC reaffirmed the military’s dedication to securing the state and acknowledged the government’s support in aiding security operations.
He also instructed the Brigade Commander to ramp up efforts against kidnapping, armed bandits and other criminal activities in the entire axis of the state.
Calling for stronger collaboration between the state government and security agencies, Maj. Gen. Oyinlola stressed the importance of unity in tackling security challenges and ensuring the safety of residents.
