Two occupants of a commercial bus with registration number APP 209XZ sustained injuries yesterday after the 13-passenger bus in which they were travelling rammed into a moving truck with registration number T4845LA at Ojota, inward Maryland, Lagos.

Rescuers said no other casualties were recorded at the incident scene, except the two adult occupants, a male and a female. The Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) cordoned off the scene as part of measures to ensure the safety of responders while the rescue lasted.

The LASEMA Response Team (LRT) coordinated the recovery operation and, in the process, activated Road Traffic Control (RTC) measures in collaboration with the Lagos State Transport Management Agency to manage traffic and forestall any secondary incidents during the recovery operation. Also, the agency’s heavy-duty crane was deployed to recover the truck and its cargo.

According to the agency’s spokesperson, Nosa Okunbor, the frontal parts of the commercial vehicle were heavily impacted by the crash, after which it became stuck, trapping the victims. He added: “No part of the articulated truck was impacted at the rear, nor was its cargo affected in any way by the impact of the incident.

“The rescued victims were administered immediate medical care by the agency’s Pre-Hospital Care Team in conjunction with LASAMBUS at the scene before being transported to the Accident and Emergency Centre at 7-Up (old Toll Gate).

“The victims are receiving further medical attention at the Accident and Emergency Centre at 7-Up (old Toll Gate), while the articulated truck and commercial vehicle have been recovered to a layby and handed over to officers from the Opebi police station.”
