UN agency visits Ekiti, set to fund project
United Nations-Habitat Organisation has visited Ekiti State, as a follow up to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) officials of the state signed with the organisation in Kenya to partner and fund its major projects.
Speaking with journalists at the end of the three-day mission, with the theme, “Assessment of Intervention Areas For Sustainable Urban Development,” head of the UN Habitat Team, Remy Sietchiping, urged communities in the state to be hopeful that the sustainable urban development project will undoubtedly create a brighter, more vibrant and eco-friendly urban landscape.
Sietchiping disclosed that the likely areas the organisation will focus on include waste, investment, data collection and management, housing, urban renewal, infrastructural development and environmental sustainability.
He said: “We understand from the Ekiti State Government that they are action-oriented. Data is an area we are already considering and looking into as means for evidence-based decision-making. We are taking them seriously and also hopeful that further engagement and enlightenment will help prioritise interventions, which will be more impactful.”
In his remarks, Gboyega Oloniyo, who doubles as the focal person of the event and the Special Adviser on Housing and Mortgage Development to the state governor, revealed that the State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, is focusing on sustainable urban development, among others.
