Unemployment: FG trains 541 northern youths on modern agricultural techniques

As part of its effort to tackle unemployment among Nigerian youths, the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, has completed the training of 541 young individuals in modern agricultural techniques, including cassava processing, beekeeping, and fisheries.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the two-week training programme, which took place at the Citizenship and Leadership Training Center (CLTC) in Jos, Plateau State, the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, assured the 541 participants, who came from the Northeast, Northwest, and North Central regions, that the programme would be continuous.

He added that it is designed to empower Nigerian youths and enable them to maximise their potential.

He explained that the programme aims to equip young people with modern agricultural techniques and practices to enhance their entrepreneurial skills and knowledge, as well as engage them in agriculture while fostering networking and collaboration among the young individuals.

The minister maintained that the training would promote sustainable farming practices, thereby enhancing their employability in the agricultural sector.

“Our goal is for you to become employers of labour rather than constantly seeking employment. I can confidently say that we are actively making progress, and youth in agriculture is a priority in the Ministry of Youth Development. Each year will continue to be better than the last. I have noted all your recommendations and requests. When we return to Abuja, a detailed report will be submitted for implementation, and I can assure you that we will do our best to follow through on these plans,” Olawande assured.

He also expressed his gratitude to the coordinators for organizing such a wonderful event and commended the participants for their cooperation, hard work, and dedication.

Represented by Mr. Olubunmi Olusanya, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Olawande, who noted that the future belongs to the youth, who currently make up over 70 percent of Nigeria’s population, highlighted the importance of investing in young people, adding that they will be the ones to carry the responsibilities of the nation in the coming years.

In his welcome remarks, His Royal Highness, Ada Emmanuel Ajik, Adagwom of Jos Izere Chiefdom, Jos-North Local Government Area, expressed his gratitude to the Federal Government for organizing training for the teeming youth across the country and for being part of the historic occasion.

He equally congratulated the participants and organisers for completing the training programme.

He stated that if it is true that the youth are the leaders of tomorrow, then there is no better way to prepare them than through the training they have undergone.

“No society can develop without equipping its youth to succeed,” the royal father added.

He urged the participants to apply what they have learned during the period and to seize every opportunity to contribute to the nation-building effort.

While sharing his experience, Idah Abdulwahab Dominion, a participant in the programme, said he was overwhelmed by the way the facilitators made the process easy, adding that the training provided them with a high level of knowledge, which he said would have been acquired with a huge amount.

He expressed his gratitude to the Federal Government for the opportunity given to them.
