VC receives delegation, promises better varsity in Sokoto

Newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, Prof. Bashir Garba, has reiterated his commitment to giving the institution a new face and an enviable standing, as he made his first major remarks since assuming office in September.

He spoke while receiving members of staff of the Mass Communication Department, who were on a courtesy visit to his office.

The delegation, which included former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and senior visiting lecturer, Dr Danladi Bako, was led by Head of Department (HOD), Dr Abubakar Musa Mijinyawa, expressed their confidence in the capacity of the administrator to better the fortunes of the ivory tower.

Mijinyawa seized the opportunity to brief the vice-chancellor on the accreditation of the department’s courses by the National Universities Commission (NUC), as well as the establishment of the University Campus Radio for training of the students of the department, among other achievements.

Responding, the vice-chancellor congratulated staff of the department on the achievements, especially the successful graduation of its first set of Bachelor of Science Mass Communication graduates.

Garba acknowledged the tremendous efforts of his predecessors.

The new VC promised to put in his very best to elevate the university to greater heights, appealing for the unconditional support of staff, students, as well as the local community.

Before the new appointment, Garba was Rector of Sokoto State Polytechnic, Vice-Chancellor of Sokoto State University, Sokoto, and Secretary to Sokoto State Government (SSG).
