A visually impaired student of Gombe State University (GSU), Hassan Muhammad is among the 31 indigent students who benefited from the yearly scholarship scheme of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Bauchi Zone.

ASUU Bauchi Zone, which comprises universities in Bauchi, Gombe and Plateau states, awarded the cash scholarship to the students to offset a session school fee. The beneficiaries were drawn from six universities of the states.

Zonal Coordinator of the Union, Associate Prof. Lazarus Maigoro, said that ASUU decided to initiate the yearly scholarship award because the union was aware of the predicament of the indigent students who are sometimes prevented from writing examinations on the basis of not being able to pay their school fees/charges as the case may be, thereby truncating their future.

The Zone called on other well-meaning Nigerians to assist indigent students by complementing what ASUU is doing, adding that such gesture would further assist more indigent students to be able to acquire university education.
