You’ve reintroduced fuel subsidy illegally, Shaibu tells Tinubu
.Energy marketers deplore NARTO, PTD strike
Special Assistant on Public Communication to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Phrank Shaibu, has accused the Federal Government of re-introducing fuel subsidy “through the back door.”
Recent media reports have stated that monthly subsidy payment is nearly N1 trillion, exceeding the amount paid monthly by the immediate President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
Shaibu, in a statement yesterday, while reacting to reports by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), claimed the Nigerian government had begun paying petrol subsidy again.
In a similar vein, the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) has expressed concern over the strike declared by the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD).
It clarified that its members are not in conflict with transport unions, stressing that individual marketers were in discussions with transporters for fair rates, while adhering to the Petroleum Industry Act and FCCPC Act.
In a statement yesterday, MEMAN observed that pump price deregulation promotes healthy competition, encourages cost-reduction measures for better customer value.
It stated: “All stakeholders, including operators and MDAs, must collaborate to optimise the supply chain for affordability amid the challenging environment.
