The Lagos State Government has stated that it is ready to ensure that noise pollution enforcement during the yuletide season and beyond becomes a thing of the past.

This was disclosed to the press by the Honorable Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.
Wahab stressed the need for stakeholders’ cooperation to achieve a safer, more peaceful, and healthier environment for residents in Lagos State.

He noted that noise, a byproduct of celebrations during festivals where music and other social activities take place, generates significant disturbances, highlighting its adverse effects on health and environmental well-being.

He said, “While this season is unique for its festive activities, we must prioritize the quality of life and well-being of all residents. Unchecked noise pollution endangers public health and the environment.”

Wahab revealed that a special force is on the ground to ensure compliance with the directives. A Special Task Force on Noise Pollution will operate under the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), supported by the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps (LSNC) and Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC).

The task force will monitor and enforce adherence to noise regulations across the state.
The Commissioner called on all residents, businesses, and visitors to embrace the Noiseless Lagos policy, stressing the government’s commitment to creating a quieter, healthier, and more livable city.

Wahab commended Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, for their reform policies under the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda, which prioritizes environmental sustainability and a cleaner Lagos.

In concluding his address, the Commissioner thanked members of the press for their continued support and urged all stakeholders to join hands with the government in achieving a Noiseless Lagos.

“Together, we can build a sustainable, livable, and peaceful Lagos that will remain a pride to us all,” he stated, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
