Yusuf talks tough on tackling political thuggery, empowering youths
Disturbed by the resurgence of political unrest in Kano, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, yesterday, accused opposition parties of fuelling instability in the state.
His reaction comes on the heels of the recent bloody clash between some suspected political thugs, who unleashed terror on another gang in the city centre.
During a State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Kano, the governor vowed drastic measures against thuggery. He said intelligence had uncovered the atrocities and their sponsors.
The governor maintained that opposition elements, bent at disrupting the prevailing peace, development, and stability in the state, were behind the needless crisis.
He reassured the determination of his administration to confront the challenges headlong, warning that the government would not tolerate attempts to alter the enduring peace and tranquility in the state.
Yusuf restated his government’s resolve to work with security agencies in the state to check excesses of criminal-minded elements and trouble shooters. He unveiled of plan to reopen the state-owned Reformatory Centre, at Kiru council area as part of measures to commence rehabilitation of youths and control drug abuse.
To check unemployment, the governor promised to roll out youth empowerment initiatives in the coming year to achieve self-reliance among the young people.
