The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), yesterday, lamented the sealing of its secretariat in Awka, Anambra State capital, by agents of the state government.

Government agents with armed security officials stormed the APGA state headquarters on Road One, Udoka Housing Estate, in the early hours of Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

Officials from the Anambra State Housing Development Corporation (ASHDC), who carried out the operation, asked occupants of the building to “show evidence that the residence was procedurally converted to a commercial premises.”

Addressing journalists at the gate of the sealed premises, the National Vice Chairman (South East) of the party, Tony Uche Ezekwelu, expressed shock that the state government could lock out officers and members of the party that produced the governor.

Ezekwelu lamented that change of party leaders and control is not a death sentence, but a rejigging of party structure for effective performance and political alertness.

He described the development as politically motivated, especially when other adjoining/adjacent offices, including the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, the office of the governor’s wife, were not affected.

Reacting in a telephone interview, the APGA’s National Chairman, Edozie Njoku, confirmed receiving information and reports about the development. He said he would consult immediately with the National Secretariat of the party on the matter, promising that appropriate action would be taken immediately.  He said: “It is true; I got the information on Tuesday that the party’s office was sealed by a government agency.

“So, I am consulting with the national secretariat. It is after the consultation that we will decide on what action to take.

“I need to know the facts, and my secretaries are making calls; once we have the true picture, we can have a proper and accurate reaction.” However, when contacted, Governor Charles Soludo’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, claimed to be oblivious of the incident. He referred journalists to the Special Adviser (SA) on Political Matters, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu.
