APC kicks as PDP sweeps Bauchi council elections
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the outcome of the weekend’s local council elections which returned Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates as winners of all 20 chairmanship slots in Bauchi State.
Among the chairmen-elect sworn in yesterday is an ex-member of the House of Representatives, Madaki Ahmed, Gololo, who twice represented Gamawa Federal Constituency.
Also among the lot are ex-Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hajara Gidado, as Chairperson, Itas/Gadau, and female deputy chairperson for Darazo, Amina Musa.
However, the Labour Party (LP) won the Bogoro councillorship election in Lusa B Ward without even fielding a candidate.
According to the electoral umpire, the party received 2,200 votes, the highest number of ballots cast at the poll.
The Chief Judge, Justice Rabiu Talatu Umar, administered the oath of office and oath of allegiance to the council bosses at the Government House after receiving their certificates of return from BASIEC.
Speaking on behalf of others, the Chairman of the Bauchi council area, Mahmoud Babamaji acknowledged that the importance of the recent local government autonomy to the grassroots.
“We recognise that the state cannot do without the federal, and we are also going to work with the state to bring about the needed development,” he said.
