The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) chairman, Richard Tombowua, on Sunday, declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for both chairmanship and councillorship positions won in the local government elections held on Saturday.

While announcing the results at the BSIEC headquarters, Tombowua said the election across the state went smoothly, adding that it was free and fair, with results from all returning officers confirming the APC’s victory in all 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship seats.

He said, “The election held yesterday across the state went off without a hitch; it was free and fair, and the returning officers have submitted all the results from the field. From the results, the All Progressives Congress won all 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship positions.”

Tombowua also noted that out of the eight political parties that submitted candidates for the election, five participated. These parties included the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

In reaction to the outcome, Ibrahim Idoko, the state chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council and Labour Party (IPAC), commended the electoral body for ensuring a peaceful and orderly process.

He also praised Governor Hyacinth Alia for creating a level playing field for all participants, while adding that his party would review the results and provide its feedback at a later date.
