Court restrains APC, PDP, others from stopping Kano LG polls

A Kano high court has granted interim injunction restraining the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and 17 others from taking any action that may hinder the conduct of local government election in the state.
In an exparte motion granted by Justice Sunusi Ado Maaji on Tuesday, the defendants are restricted from constituting any move, including legal proceedings that prevent the Kano state Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) from discharging its statutory mandate on the council poll slated for 26th October, 2024.
The exparte motion instituted by KANSIEC against the political parties including the ruling New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) intended to block all attempt by opposition parties to fraustrate conduct of the election.
“That an order of Interim Injunction hereby made restraining the defendants either by themselves, agents, preview, servants or any other persons whatsoever from doing any act capable of scuttling the efforts of the plaintiff to organize, conduct, regulate and supervise the local government election pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”
Justice S. A Maaji has fixed 10th October, 2024 for hearing on the motion on notice filed by Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC).

KANSIEC legal action comes on the heel of subsisting order that stopped the commission from imposing N10 million and N5 million on nomination fee for Chairman and Councillor slots respectively.
Justice Emeka Nwite of Federal high Court, FCT division granted the exparte order instituted by Action Peoples Party, APP, Action Democratic Party, ADD, and Social Democratic Party, SDP, pending hearing of the motion already adjourned for Wednesday 25th, September, 2024.
Despite the Justice Nwite’s order, KANSIEC has slashed the nomination form to N9 million from N10 million (Chairman) and N4 million from N5 million (councillor) earlier fix.
