The chairman of a pro-democracy group, Alliance for Sustainable Kwara (ASK), Alhaji AbdulRazaq Lawal, has noted that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is gradually transforming the state into a model city.

Referring to the recent flag-off of the construction, rehabilitation, and upgrade of 209.77 kilometers of rural roads across the three senatorial districts, he said that the governor has not only turned Ilorin into a model city, “he has also initiated commendable moves to make every part of the state worthy of habitation with the ongoing massive infrastructural projects across communities in the state,” he said.

Lawal, at the end of the monthly meeting of ASK on Tuesday, in a statement signed by the association’s secretary, Alhaji Abdullahi Olesin, thanked the Sardauna of Ilorin for his interest in the development of every part of the state.

He also expressed delight at the level of construction work at the Osi (Kwara South) and Baruten (Kwara North) satellite campuses of the state university (KWASU).

The former Commissioner for Special Duties noted that the two satellite campuses, when fully operational, will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

He said the university campuses will also transform the host communities from rural areas into model cities.

Lawal further applauded the establishment of the University of Education, Ilorin, by the governor and the subsequent appointment of a woman, Professor Medinat Salman, as the pioneer acting Vice-Chancellor.

While assuring the governor of ASK’s continued support, he urged him not to be distracted by opposition elements, whom he described as being more interested in personal aggrandizement than in the state’s development.

He concluded that history will be kind to Governor AbdulRazaq for his statesmanship, self-denial, sacrifices, prudent management of the state’s resources, and unwavering commitment to the development of Kwara State.
