Recognises Agballah as state Chairman

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Umar Ganduje, has said that the national leadership of the party is not aware of the crisis in its Enugu State chapter, stressing that Ugochukwu Agballah remains the state chairman of the party.

Some members of the party, led by the Zonal Chairman (West), Alphonsus Nwafor, had recently announced the suspension of Agballah and a few other members of his executive branch, accusing them of anti-party activities, among others.

The group, which also went to court to restrain Agballah and the suspended members from acting in their capacity, had appointed Nwafor as Acting State Chairman with other functionaries.

Addressing the party stakeholders during a meeting at its state secretariat, Ganduje noted that there were constitutional ways of removing elected officials, adding that the provisions were not followed.

“When you follow the party’s Constitution, it will guide on the provisions for the removal of an elected official. When you do that, the national secretariat will be brought to attention. I am worried by the reports we have read on the development because it is affecting our mobilisation in the state and South East region,” Ganduje said.

Ganduje, who spoke through the Deputy National Chairman (South), Emma Enukwu, accused those creating crises in the state chapter of hobnobbing with the state government.

“Whether they like it or not, they won’t go far in their antics. We know why they are worried. That is because the APC is being repositioned to win the next general elections in the state. But we are determined, and there is no going back in our collective quest as a party that is truly for the masses,” he said.

He said that President Bola Tinubu is poised to win again in 2027, adding that no level of opposition and internal strife would stop him, even as he asked those creating crises to stop and look at the bigger picture with Tinubu in charge.

He, however, counselled Agballah to be more tolerant and embrace contrary views, adding that he should not fail to bring back anyone who is repentant.

“We need more people to win elections. We need tolerance to win elections. If they realise they have made mistakes and come back please accept them. We need to flush out these people in Enugu Government House who are sitting on a stolen mandate in 2027, and the only way to do it is through our votes,” he stated.

A statement from the stakeholders’ meeting signed by Enukwu, Minister of Science and Innovation, Uche Nnaji, State Chairman, Ugochukwu Agballah, among others, condemned the recent display of gross indiscipline and total disregard for the APC’s Constitution by some misguided party members who met in a hotel and purportedly announced the suspension of Agballah; the Deputy Chairman, Augustine Alumonah; Treasurer, Jude Aniogbo, and State Organising Secretary, Emeka Eze.
