The Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Saliu Mustapha, on Thursday, formally submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development officially signals his entry into the race to succeed the current administration in the state, as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum within the ruling party.

Mustapha, who is regarded by many party stakeholders as one of the leading contenders in the APC governorship contest, is widely seen within party circles as a strong political figure amid growing concerns among party loyalists over renewed opposition activities linked to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Announcing the submission of the forms on his verified social media platforms, the senator described the move as a major milestone in his political journey and a step toward building what he called a more progressive Kwara State.

“I have formally submitted my Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to contest for the APC governorship primary ticket for Kwara State,” he stated.

“This marks my official entry into the party’s screening process and represents a significant step in the journey toward building a more progressive and inclusive Kwara State.”

He added that he remained committed to continued engagement with party leaders, stakeholders, and residents of the state as the political process unfolds.

“I look forward to continued engagement with the people of Kwara State, party leaders, and political stakeholders as the process progresses. Together, we will continue to work towards the future our state truly deserves,” he added.

Mustapha’s entry into the governorship race is expected to intensify political consultations and alignments within the APC as aspirants position themselves ahead of the party’s primary election.

Political observers in the state say the coming months are likely to witness increased grassroots mobilisation, strategic consultations, and heightened political activity across the state’s three senatorial districts as the contest gradually takes shape.
