Mbah assures PDP leaders’ determination to restore S’East as party’s region

reelected South-East Zonal Chairman of PDP, Ali Odefa; National Secretary of the PDP, Sunday Udeh-Okoye, and BoT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, during the South-East PDP Zonal Congress in Enugu, yesterday.
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, yesterday, declared that the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are determined to restore the South-East to the PDP region.
He stated that the party remains the pride of the South-East, stressing that the ongoing developments should not deter its members from striving for greatness.
Mbah spoke as the party’s zonal congress, held in Enugu, unanimously returned Ali Odefa as its National Vice Chairman (South-East); James Ugwu as the Zonal Secretary and eight other zonal working committee members.
The governor, who addressed enthusiastic party delegates drawn from the five states of the region, said the PDP truly understands the people’s demands and expectations and would do all in their ability to meet them.
He said: “I am proud to see so many of you in this arena this afternoon. It is a potent reminder that democracy is a participatory endeavour, and our party is always committed to that ideal. We thank everyone gathered here for coming out en masse to further give meaning to our party’s conviction that democracy is the power of the people in action.
“Your resilience is amazing. It reflects your steadfast belief in our great party. We fully understand the demands and expectations of the people in a democratic setting. The bottom line is good governance. This is the ideal which our great party has committed itself to right from inception. Democracy is beyond the squabble for office and power. It is about the people. We cannot emphasise that enough.
“When we describe the PDP as a great party, it’s not just a borrowed mantra. The party’s greatness is derived from its capacity to reinvent itself and retain its national appeal in the face of challenges.”
The governor noted that the South-East has always been a bastion of the PDP, saying that they had always carried the banner of the party with immense pride and honour.
“We must ensure that that remains so. This should be uppermost in our minds. We strongly affirm that unity is strength; that the best we crave for our party can only be attained if we remain united,” Mbah added.
