New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), yesterday, reaffirmed its commitment to unity and discipline, while addressing challenges posed by expelled members allegedly working to destabilise the party.

The party also accused some expelled members of the party of being used by rival political parties to sow discord and create disaffection within the party.

The National Chairman of the party, Dr Ajuji Ahmed, who spoke in Abuja, said a group of expelled members were fighting hard to destroy the party.

The chairman also emphasised NNPP’s dual role as the ruling party in Kano State and constructive opposition in other parts of the country.

He issued a stern warning to members engaging in anti-party activities, stressing that such actions would not be tolerated.

He said: “We intend to continue to play our role as the ruling party in Kano State, and a viable and constructive opposition in all other parts of the country. Let me sound a note of warning to our members. ”

“This is a democratic party. However, we shall not tolerate members who engage in anti-party activities to do so with impunity. No matter how highly placed, all members are expected to remain disciplined and operate within the ambit of our constitution.

“The internal mechanisms of our party shall be guarded jealously. Finally, I have directed the Legal and Publicity directorates of our party to release to you all today, a comprehensive constitutional status of the party, as of this morning.”

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to counter any attempts by the national government to weaken opposition parties.
