The governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming off-cycle governorship election in Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, has disclosed that the electorate will reject the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the poll going by the current economic downturn and hardships.

While urging prospective voters not to be wooed by the APC, which had subjected them to hunger, Ajayi maintained the ruling party had successfully weaponized poverty for selfish purposes.

Speaking in Idanre, headquarters of the Idanre local council area of the state, after the inauguration of a 400-member campaign committee for the PDP, Ajayi, a former Deputy Governor and House of Representatives member, urged the people to ensure that they vote en mass for the PDP come November 16.

He said, “We are not here to campaign yet. We are here to greet the people over the demise of our late king. No reasonable person should contemplate voting for APC with the level of hardship unleashed on Nigerians. You have shown that you love us and our party; kindly ensure that you vote and stay with your vote during the poll.”

The residents who welcomed the PDP candidate and his entourage into the ancient city during the inauguration of the campaign committee and condolences visit to the palace of Owa of Idanre over the demise of Oba (Dr.) Fredrick Aroloye applauded him for choosing his deputy from the town.

According to them, the chances of the PDP winning the forthcoming governorship election are improving daily with the choice of Hon. Festus Akingbaso as Ajayi’s ruling mate.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, the chairman of the party in Council, Hon. Adekunle Akinlalu, disclosed that the “election is about Idanre’s agenda, and no other political parties here will win any vote here. We have moved around the town; you can see for yourself that the dance is for the PDP.”

While noting that since the creation of the state, no Idanre indigenes have ever become deputy governors in the state, Akinlalu stated that the residents and the indigenes of the ancient town would show gratitude to the PDP during the poll.

He said, “We are going to beat other parties with a wide margin that they will not be able to meet. We appreciate you picking our son as your deputy governorship candidate. We will show our appreciation through our vote come the November 16th governorship election. We will not disappoint you. We are loyal people in danger.

Inaugurating the Local Government Campaign Council, the chairman of the PDP Campaign Council in the state, Eddy Olafeso, urged the committee members led by Hon. Romeo Adesuyi to work assiduously to ensure that they deliver the local government for PDP.

On his part, the running mate to Ajayi, Akingbaso, urged the people to eschew any forms of violence before, during, and after the election.

Akingbaso, a member representing the Idanre/Ifedore federal constituency in the National Assembly, said, “APC is threatening us that we are not as financially buoyant as them, but we have God. When they give you money, take their money and vote for PDP.”
