The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State and the major opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) have expressed different views over the current governance in the state and boasted of victory in the 2026 governorship election.

A chieftain of the APC, Bade Falade, claimed that the state’s governor, Ademola Adeleke, had nothing significant to show for his stay in office in the last two years and that he would suffer monumental defeat in the next poll.

But Adeleke’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, disagreed, saying that the incumbent administration has positively transformed Osun State and that it would be impossible for the major opposition party to win a single local council in the 2026 governorship election.

Falade, while speaking in Osogbo, yesterday, on a radio programme monitored by The Guardian, said that Adeleke had only succeeded in demolishing people’s houses in the name of constructing roads of which no significant achievement has been recorded.

The former council chairman in the state maintained that APC would defeat Adeleke if he tried to run for a second term because he has not achieved anything in most of the towns and villages in the state.

Alimi, while dismissing Falade’s comments as normal “politicians’ sentiments and hallucinations,” told The Guardian that with the outstanding performance of Adeleke across all sectors, it would be impossible for the APC to win a single council in Osun State during the forthcoming governorship election.

He said: “Falade is a politician and if you had listened to virtually all the callers, you would know that the people are not fools. They asked him about the economic situation in the country, he said the subsidy removal had been given to the governor and he was quoting outrageous figures that are not correct. So, he is indirectly saying that Tinubu has removed the subsidy and has given the money to the governors. Is that the correct situation, the answer is no. Out of all the money collected from the Federation Account, the Federal Government will take 52 per cent, while the entire states of the federation will share 26 per cent.

“Osun State’s allocation only moved from about N4 billion to about N6 billion. The APC is adding its fictitious figure. They even used to talk as if all the money from the Federal Allocation was coming to Osun because of the projects they were seeing. They did not even ask about the cost of the materials now. All those things they have said are lies.”

Alimi, who insisted that the APC lacks the wherewithal to dislodge Adeleke in 2026, further said: “Even the Ejigbo where he (Falade) comes from, they challenged him that he lost his ward. He only quoted the figure of his unit and could not deny the fact that he lost in his ward.

“Even if APC are one, apart from the differences they are having, they cannot defeat PDP now.

“So, the statement made by Falade is just his political sentiment and he is hallucinating and the true picture on the ground, which the people of Osun know, is that Adeleke is a performer and he is performing.”
