The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, yesterday, said that Governor Seyi Makinde, would contest in the 2027 presidential election. Makinde-for-President in 2027 posters have surfaced in some social media platforms.

The Acting Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, who also doubles as Youth Leader, Michael Ogunsina, in a chat with The Guardian, said that Makinde is better than the current President.

Ogunsina said Makinde could be brought in to finish the tenure of the South, adding that the governor is the most experienced in the zone. He said that Makinde had demonstrated leadership, stating that the governor believed in data, science and logic to engender good governance.

MEANWHILE, the newly appointed Chairman of the Ekiti State PDP caretaker committee, Dare Adeleke, has warned members of the party that it would no longer be business as usual, saying that every anti-party activity by anyone would attract severe consequences.

Adeleke stated this, at the weekend, when he led other members of the committee to an interactive meeting with the state’s PDP leaders and stakeholders, comprising former governors, former deputy governors, former senators, former House of Representatives members and other leaders of the party from the 16 local councils of the state.

However, the former governor of the state, Ayodele Fayose and members of his Osoko Political Assembly, were conspicuously absent from the meeting. No reason was given for their absence.

Adeleke, who emphasised the need for discipline among members, added that speaking against the party both in private and public places constitutes anti-party activities, saying: “This and other negative behaviours against the party shall be thoroughly sanctioned without delay.” He, however, appealed to members of the party to be united, adding: “There is no other choice for us than to unite and be whole again.

“I hereby appeal to all leaders and stakeholders to preach and act forgiveness to one another, and in unison, we shall succeed.”

Meanwhile, various leaders, who spoke at the meeting, including the former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Biodun Olujimi; Senator DuroFaseyi, former state chairmen of the party, among others, pledged their total support for the caretaker committee.

They urged the committee not to listen or take directives from anyone in the discharge of their duties, urging them to provide a level playing field for every member of the party and also give members the formula to revive the party.
