Notable Nollywood actor, Daniel Etim Effiong may have to start preparing his award acceptance speech for tonight’s African Magic Viewer’s Choice Award (AMVCA) ceremony.

At a polling event organized by members of the Lagos Circle of Film Critics (LCFC), members in attendance voted in favour of Daniel Effiong and picked him over other nominees as their favourite to clinch the award of best actor in a drama. The other notable actors nominated in this category include Chidi Mokeme (Shanty Town), Blossom Chukwujekwu (The Trade), and Tobi Bakre (Brotherhood).

A 2022 winner of the best actor award of the African International Film Festival (AFRIFF), an award he earned for putting up a delightful performance as Wale in Jude Idada’s award-winning thriller, ‘KOFA’, it is the same performance as Wale in KOFA that has earned the Kaduna-born Chemical Engineering graduate a nomination at this edition of AMVCA.

No doubt, the former oil and gas industry worker turned actor put up a delightful and believable performance as Wale to earn the majority vote and endorsement of members of the LCFC. Although the winner in the best actor in a drama will be decided by public voting, members of the LCFC believe that the voting public will like them, agree that the star of Walter Banger thriller ‘Jolly Rogers’ acquitted himself as an actor in KOFA.

An actor and director who has emerged as a good centre to hang a story on, Effiong has grabbed a lot of screen credits and is notable for directing the documentary by Beverly Naya titled ‘Skin’. The well-married actor also earned an Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) nomination as leading actor for his role in Walter Banger’s ‘Jolly Rogers’.

If Daniel Effiong picks the crest tonight, he will be rightly admitted into the unofficial club of the continent’s leading screen actors.
