Ottoman comfy
With more polished design varieties, Ottoman seems to have taken over the interior furniture design space.
That padded, upholstered seat or bench without arms or a back typically used as a comfortable footrest in front of a couch, chair or bed is called Ottoman.
Although back in trend, Ottoman furniture and name emanated from Turkey’s Ottoman Empire, in the late 13th century.
The Turkish people of the Ottoman empire took to covering stools in vibrant, brightly coloured fabrics, yet it wasn’t until the early 18th century that the word ‘Ottoman’ was actually used to describe the upholstered stool.
The stool was traditionally heaped with cushions and formed the main piece of seating in the home at the time.
Features Of Ottoman Furniture
• Ottoman furniture may be an upholstered low couch or a smaller cushioned seat used as a table, stool or footstool.
• The seat may have hinges and form a lid for the inside hollow, which can be used for storage of linen, magazines or other items, making it a form of storage furniture.
• The smaller version is usually placed near an armchair or sofa as part of the living room décor, fireside seat and make-up seat.
