The 2021 edition of the Port Harcourt Fashion and Design Week (PHFDW) is scheduled to hold next week.

The event designed to empower local fashion designers and facilitate market and network opportunities for growth and sustainability in the industry is themed “Revitalising the Economy Through Fashion Tourism.”

Africa will gather in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on November 19 and 20 to celebrate its people’s culture and heritage during the PHFDW 2021 organised by Ngozi Ferrari, a former model and chief executive of Wave Model Management.

Speaking on the expectation at the event, Ferrari said that Nigeria’s fashion had gone beyond promoting the industry alone to having the capacity to develop tourism and drive trade.

“The big capitals of fashion cities understood this a long time ago and have used platforms like this to promote tourism and drive trade in their various countries. Emerging societies are gradually embracing this trend and it’s a good time for us as a community to tag along.”

She noted that aside from celebrating the people’s culture and the inherent sophistication, the PHFDW 2021 seeks to expand the power of fashion as a tool to alleviate poverty, capacitate and empower local fashion designers and lifestyle brands. “This would also facilitate market and network opportunities that would prompt growth and sustainability of their business.”
