Poised to revolutionise the music industry, new entrant, Evolution Records made its debut in Lagos with a big splash.
The music label also debuted with her breakout star, Divine Reo.
Giving the welcome address, label co-founder, Henry ‘Pundit’ Kufre, expressed delight that the dream of several years has come to fruition. Expressing faith and confidence in the label’s longevity, he vowed that they were here to stay and leave their mark on the industry.
Speaking with The Guardian, he described the label as a family, noting that before officially launching, plans were made on how to survive the tough music industry. “We are well aware of our limits and while I won’t say we are here to take over, we intend to be worthy contenders,” he said.
Commenting on the unveiled artiste, Divine Reo, he expressed awareness of the pressures that artists in labels go through to meet expectations, vowing that they intend to do things differently.
“We don’t want to put pressure on our artist or bully her. We just want the world to see her talent and what she can do. We don’t intend to put a lot of pressure on her but everyone can be rest assured that we will go the extra mile for her. There are not many top female artists in Nigeria currently and we intend to change that. Not to over promise but Divine Reo can adapt to any type of sound, locally or internationally; she is that talented.
“Also, she is ready to give what the industry needs right now. Whatever she gives us is what we’ll promote to the best of our abilities,” he said.
