Abdul-Jabbar Momoh, better known by his stage name, Jabba or Mr. Jabba, a versatile Afro-fusion artiste and entrepreneur, whose inspiring story, unique sound, and passion for music is set to captivate audiences worldwide.
Speaking about his passion for music, self-discovery and creativity, Jabba said he was surrounded by diverse music, which sparked his passion for performance at the tender age of seven. This early start paved the way for his journey as a music creator, driven by a desire to craft his distinctive sound.
His words: “My journey in the music scene has been one of continuous evolution, molding and shaping my distinctive sounds that resonate with audiences far and wide. My brand of music is a sonic trip through the pockets of experiences and stories he collects in his life journey.
“Growing up, I often memorise the lyrics of my favourite songs and wow my classmates with performances. It was at this point I realised my passion for music and started conceiving a dream of becoming a creator of my own sound and style.”
Inspired by remarkable artistes across generations including Eminem, Chaka Demus and Pliers, 2Face Idibia, Wande Coal, P-Square, Kendrick Lamar, Show Dem Camp, Burna Boy and most recently BNXN, the fast rising artiste states that his music seamlessly weaves together Afrobeats, dancehall, and hip-hop to create a unique sonic experience.
Reflecting his eclectic taste and commitment to creating authentic music, Jabba explained that these people inspire him to create from a point of uniqueness rather than just following trends, stressing that his music touches a broad spectrum of topics. Common themes in his catalogue include love, sex, life struggles, motivation, and success.
Commenting on upcoming projects and collaborations, the afro-fusion act said he latest single titled Ooh Baby (Jollof), a lounge Amapiano track that explores themes of love and companionship was inspired by a perfect date night in Lagos.
Featuring Seyi Millz, another fast rising music sensation, Jabba aver that the collaboration showcases his ability to craft soothing vocals and meaningful lyrics. The song was produced by Nedsbeatz, a long-time friend and producer of Jabba.
The music sensation revealed that this is the first time he is collaborating with a female artiste and the dynamics was smooth. “We challenged each other during the process to find the perfect blend and it was worth every note.”
Asked how he balances creativity and inspiration, Jabba said, “Creativity is a continuous process, driven by everyday life, relatable stories, and his vast music collection. I believe in the importance of collaboration, hence I embrace the beauty of working with others to create something unique and authentic.
On how he overcomes challenges and stays focused, Jabba said, “As an independent artiste, I have faced challenges in competing with larger label budgets, but I have developed creative strategies to build a loyal following, trusting that my consistency and growth will ultimately lead to success.
Through his music, Jabba hopes to inspire listeners and remind them that love is still a beautiful thing. With Ooh Baby (Jollof), he is set to make a significant impact on the music scene.
