Okhuofu, Imobhio Unite In Queen Idia: Wife. Mother, Warrior
Benin City-born seasoned filmmaker, Patience Oghenevo Okhuofu, is set to bring the epic story of Queen Idia, a powerful and influential queen of the Benin Empire, renowned for her exceptional leadership, courage, and strategic thinking to the big screen.
As a pioneering female leadership, Queen Idia defied traditional gender roles, demonstrating that women could lead effectively. Hence, her remarkable legacy continues to inspire leaders, artists, and individuals worldwide, cementing her place as one of Africa’s most revered queens.
Shedding light on the legendary Benin Queen who defied conventions and saved her kingdom in the 16th century, Okhuofu said her fascination with Queen Idia which began in her childhood, was sparked by the iconic Idia mask, symbol of FESTAC 77.

Titled, Queen Idia: Wife, Mother, Warrior, the epic film according to Okhuofu, tells the story of Queen Idia, a powerful woman who fought to save her throne and kingdom in the 1500s.
“I want to tell her story, not just to Nigerians, but to the world. The film delves into Queen Idia’s life as a wife, mother, and warrior, highlighting her bravery in a patriarchal society. She didn’t just pray; she took up arms and fought for her kingdom,” the filmmaker said.
