Africa Body Builders Set To Celebrate Odili

The best of African body builders will from October 14 to 18 gather in Port Harcourt to celebrate one of the pillars of the sport, Dr. Peter Odili.

Nigeria has achieved credible feats both within and outside Africa in the sport, a profile, which has earned the country the right to host the 14th African Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship and Expo 2015.

According to a release by the organisers, the championship, which has been endorsed by the National Sports Commission (NSC), is billed to hold in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

President of the Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation of Nigeria, Soye Elekima, said on Wednesday that the continental event would attract athletes and delegates from over 30 African countries, including the officials of African Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (AFBB) and the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB).

He also revealed that eight world champions would be special guests at the event, adding, “it will serve as qualifier for the 69th World Bodybuilding Championship billed for Spain in November 2015, and Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Classics billed for Columbus, Ohio, USA, in March 2016.

Elekima revealed that the Federation has approached Rivers State Governor, Ezewon Nyesom Wike, to sponsor five-day championship.

He added that part of the highlights of the championship would be celebration of the 10-year anniversary of the conferment of “Ambassador of Fitness Award” on the former Rivers State’s former governor, Dr. Peter Odili.
