African arm-wrestling champion seeks corporate support
African arm-wrestling heavyweight champion (Masters’ category), Daniel Chukwuemeka, has called on corporate bodies and sports-loving Nigerians to support his bid to win a gold medal at the 2024 African Games and also qualify for the World Championship in Ghana.
Chukwuemeka has been training for the Ghana 2024 Africa Games, which will serve as the qualifying competition for the World Championship, which will also be hosted by Ghana.
Chukwuemeka said the winner of Arm-wrestling Masters Category 100kg+ at the Africa Games automatically qualifies for the World Championship, adding that there would be no other qualification window outside Ghana 2024.
He said: “I have been training in Lagos with the little resources at my disposal and at this stage, every serious contender for medal at the Africa Games are expected to have started preparations for the event. “I am currently the undisputed African heavyweight champion in the 100kg+ masters’ category and I don’t see anybody capable of beating me in Ghana.
But I still have to prepare very well to avoid being taken unawares by ambitious opponents. The African champion, who said his ambition is to become the world heavyweight champion and Africa Games gold medallist, said he was forced to seek help from corporate Nigeria and philanthropists when the cost of preparing for such big competitions became difficult for him to meet.
“I am an operational staff of the Federal Road Safety Corp. I was formerly into body building before a police friend of mine introduced me to arm-wrestling. Since then, I have won all my battles to become African heavyweight champion.
“After the Africa Games, I hope to also feature in the World Arm-Wrestling Championship, where the world’s best would come to show their stuff.
“I cannot do all these alone hence my call to Nigerians to support my quest to bring honours to Nigeria.”
