Claims his family is starving
A Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) player, Anthony Michael, who plays for Niger Tornadoes, has cried for help, claiming that the Minna-based team has failed to pay his two-month wages after “illegally” terminating his contract.

Michael claims that his contact was “unlawfully terminated” by Niger Tornadoes in December 2024, a month after his wedding, saying that the club “suddenly” declared him surplus to requirements.

Michael said that the club has failed to settle his outstanding emoluments despite a letter from the NPFL to Niger Tornadoes chairman ordering the club to pay him a compensation fee of N1.3 million or be sanctioned.

He said that he was forced to bring the case to Nigerians having suffered in silence for over two months.

“Life has been hard, my young family has been suffering,” Michael said. I must confess that it’s not been easy since my contract was terminated a few days after my marriage in November 2024.  Taking proper care of my pregnant wife has been a struggle and I can no longer support my siblings’ school fees. My rent is due and my aged dad’s health is deteriorating as I can no longer afford his hospital check up and medication,” Michael lamented.

According to a source, the NPFL is only relying on deducting the compensation from the money due Niger Tornadoes FC, which may not be effected until the end of the season.

Meanwhile, no official of Niger Tornadoes was willing to speak on the issue, yesterday, one anonymously said  that “management is treating all cases relating to players welfare.”
