Iwobi confident Super Eagles will make Nigerians proud
Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi has expressed confidence that the Super Eagles will go far at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.
The Eagles will begin their quest for a fourth AFCON title on Sunday, 14 January against Equatorial Guinea in Group A.
They will play AFCON 2023 hosts Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau later in the tournament.
In a chat with the Super Eagles media, Iwobi stated that Nigerian fans should be rest assured that they will make them proud.
“The fans know the quality we have in the team, from each man that is in the squad and the ones that didn’t make the squad, there is a lot of talents in the squad.
“We have confidence we can go far in this competition, but we have to prove it and assure the fans that we can prove ourselves. They can be sure we will make the nation proud.”
The Fulham forward described the team’s preparation in Abu Dhabi as a good one.
“Preparation has been good, we are in Abu Dhabi right now. We have got some friendlies to warm up before the AFCON.
“Everyone is almost complete here, the squad is almost complete and we are also training well.”
On Sunday the Eagles thrashed a local club in Abu Dhabi 12-0 with in a test game with Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, Umar Sadiq and Moses Simon scoring.
Today (Monday), they will take on Guinea in a friendly game.
