Lekki Scrabble Club President, Samuel Anikoh, has described this year’s edition of the Lekki Scrabble Classics, which will be held on September 28 and 29, as a great preparation for the country’s players ahead of the 2024 African Scrabble Championship in Kigali, Rwanda, from October 23 to 27.

The African Scrabble Championship (ASC), the biennial “battle board” of the continent, will witness the convergence of many mind gamers who will hunt for honour, pride, and glory in Rwanda.

With players from over 15 countries fighting for top titles at the championship, Anikoh believes that the top competition among scrabble players in Nigeria at the Lekki Scrabble Classics would put players in top form for the African Championship.

“We are quite pleased with the timing of the LSC this year. We have the pleasure of providing a platform for players to sharpen their minds in readiness for the ASC in Kigali, Rwanda. Of course, there’s the added benefit that hopefully the mouthwatering prize monies on offer will offer some support to players who plan to make the trip to Rwanda,” Anikoh said.

The Lekki Scrabble president also added: “We are also glad that the LSC has been carefully selected yearly to hold on the closest weekend to the celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day, allowing us to escape the rigors of everyday living to celebrate, relax and compete fairly over the scrabble board despite our very diverse cultures.”

Defending champion, Enoch Nwali, who also holds the ASC title, and the other top contenders are expected to test their word-power at the yearly Lekki Scrabble Classics.
