NFF Upholds Ahmadu Bello Stadium For Eagles, Pharoahs Clash
THE Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna will still go ahead to host the Africa Cup of Nations 2017 qualifier match between the Super Eagles and the Pharaohs of Egypt, fixed for March 26.
NFF had earlier announced Ahmadu Bello Stadium as the venue and needed to guarantee that it will be able to host the epic encounter that will decide Nigeria’s faith at qualification for next year’s AFCON in Gabon.
Disclosing the suitability of the venue on its website, the Federation’s General Secretary, Sanusi Mohammed, who led a delegation to the stadium for inspection, disclosed that there were still some work to be done, but that the stadium will be ready for the all important game.
“We have seen every part of the stadium, and it seems ready for the Eagles, Pharaohs clash, but there is still some work to be done to ensure we have a perfect atmosphere come March 26.”
Mohammed, however, appealed to the state government through the chairman of the Kaduna Football Association, Abdulkadir Kabaka, to make sure that the stadium maintains a high level of readiness and standard for such high calibre game.
The first leg of the match was moved forward by three days by CAF following an appeal by the NFF. The second leg will now take place in Egypt on March 29.
Nigeria is behind Egypt, which has six points as against four points after two matches.
