Olympic Games: Ofili gallops into women’s 200m final
Team Nigeria’s Favour Ofili, yesterday, rose form the ashes of disappointment to qualify for the final of the women’s 200m at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Ofili was denied the opportunity to compete for a medal in the 100m by negligent officials, who failed to register her for the race that she qualified for by virtue of her performances during the season.
But she did not allow that to weigh her down as she ran a smooth race to finish in second position in the first semifinals in 22.5 seconds behind 100m champion, Julien Alfred, who ran 21.98s. USA’s McKenzie Long finished third in 22.30s,
Ofili’s 22.05s is an improvement on the 22.24s she ran in the first round on Sunday. Ofili had won her preliminary round on Sunday, coming first in Heat Six ahead of Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith, who finished second in 22.28 seconds, and Gina Bass-Bittaye, who took third in 22.84 seconds.
