University of Ibadan (UI) Senior Staff Club has successfully hosted the 15th University Triangular Games, a yearly sports tournament that rotates between the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and this year’s hosts, University of Ibadan.
The three-day event, which ran from October 20 to October 23, began with teams arriving at the UI Snr. Staff Club, main venue of the event on October 19 for accreditation, dinner and opening ceremony by the Vice Chancellor, Professor K.O. Adebowale.
Participants competed for honours in tennis, five-a-side football, volleyball, badminton, squash, darts and various indoor games such as ludo, scrabble, ayo olopon, draught, chess, monopoly, ace card, whot, table tennis and drinking.
The Games is one of the rare opportunities that the three institutions have to jointly loosen up and build a spirit of camaraderie and rewarding socialisation. Each of the institutions was represented by a 30-person contingent.
At the end of competition, the UI Snr. Staff Club led the table with 10 gold medals, nine silver and seven bronze medals. UNILAG came second with six gold, 10 silver and four bronze medals, while OAU came third with four gold, one silver and nine bronze medals.
The next edition of the competition will be hosted by OAU next year.
