Founder of Football Fans Tribe, Tokoni Joseph Iderima,, has said that the social media platform was formed to promote the culture of football supportership among Nigerian fans, providing a common ground for discussion, celebration, and banter.

Speaking to a select group of journalists, the brain behind Football Fans Tribe said, “Football is something sewn into our lifestyle as Nigerians, so by default, the passion is there, but then it now also serves as an escape from the current realities.”

Tokoni Iderima’s vision for Football Fans Tribe began in 2019, inspired by fan-centric content from platforms like AFTV and United Stand.

Noting the untapped football fan landscape in Nigeria, he sought to create a platform where fans could unite, share their passion, and showcase Nigerian football culture to a global audience.

Bridging the gap that existed before, the CEO of Football Fans Tribe explained that “there was not any such football fan platform on the internet outside Europe, talk less in Africa, so there was a need to let the world see how we follow our beloved clubs, the national team and how we discuss, banter, and celebrate football with each other”.

And to its credit, Football Fans Tribe has successfully bridged this gap, attracting significant following from Nigerians in the diaspora and other Africans.

Tokoni Iderima believes that reviving the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) requires improved broadcasting but however suggested that “To revive the followership of the NPFL, starts from getting all and not some games shown live. From there, the branding of clubs, funding into the participating clubs, and other minor points can follow”.

With over two million followers spread across YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly known as Twitter), and a monthly reach of over 35 million, Football Fans Tribe has made appearances on international media outlets, including Premier League TV, Arise News, and News Central. Its contents have also been featured on ESPN and BBC.

Looking forward into the future, Iderima anticipates continued collaboration with mainstream media, to expand Football Fans Tribe’s global reach.

“We are absolutely proud of our achievements and a’e committed to promoting Nigerian football culture worldwide.”

Through Football Fans Tribe, Iderima has created a vibrant community that celebrates Nigerian football culture. As the platform continues to grow, he said its impact on promoting football supportership and Nigerian culture will undoubtedly be felt globally.

“Our mission is to show the world out passionate Nigerian football fans are about this beautiful game called soccer and celebrate our culture and lifestyle through the lens of football,” said the Football Fans Tribe founder.
