The General Overseer, The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch AdejareAdeboye, has called on Christians to pitch their tents with Jesus Christ if they want to be a champion.
He gave the admonition at the 2026RCCG August Thanksgiving Service held atThe Throne of Grace,RCCG headquarters, Ebute-Metta, with the theme: “ Divine Champions.” In the service, he prayed for Sportsmen, Real Estate Developers and their families.

Adeboye said, to become a champion, three things are essential: strength, wisdom and a good coach. He noted that life is a war, and as soon as a child is born, his war begins and would terminate at his death, adding that to live a successful life, one has to be a champion.

Drawing analogy from the boxing profession, Adeboye stressed that every sojourner on earth needs strength and wisdom to defeat his enemy, as well as a good coach to train him/her. A good coach will give the right tips that willmakethe champion to be careful, focus on his/her day-by-day improvement,and keep on pushing to sustain it.

He said: “You need wisdom and courage to be victorious in life, as you face diverse wars, trials, temptations and problems. You need to sustain your victory because the moment you win a battle, your enemy goes to re-strategise to fight you again, remembering that the battle does not end until you exit out of the world.

“For effective strength, you need God, for wisdom more than that of your foe, you need Jesus, Who is the Wisdom and Power of God and He is the best Coach you can ever have. Jesus is always interested in your victory to the very end.”

Adeboye added that in case you undermine your opponent and he knocks you down, a good coach would have advised you not to get up in time, but stay down there and be re-strategising; only make sure that before the referee counts to ten, you are up on your feet and face your enemy with new vigour. Saying this is where courage comes in, he counselled prospective champions to hook on to Jesus as the Strength, the Wisdom and the Coach.

Quoting the scripture, he noted that Jesus said, ‘without Me, you can do nothing’ implying that without Him, nobody can be a champion, let alone sustain it.

Adeboye revealed that the first category of ex-champions are those who trusted in the Lord Jesus at the beginning of their lives, but went back to the world, probably because of persecution or tribulations. The second category are those who would not hold fast to Jesus Christ the end throughprays, fasting and always checking up if they are still in the faith.

The Special Assistant to the General Overseer, Administration and Pastor-in-Charge of RCCG Region 1, Dele Balogun, re-emphasised the need to have, Jesus Christ for strength, wisdom and a Coach like David in the Bible, who had God as his coach and God preserved him wherever he went till his death. He enjoined parents to train their children in way of the Lord, keep eyes on them, engage them always in the way of the Lord because an idle hand is the devil’s workshop and ensure they are champions that God wants them to be.
