Key verse:Proverbs 22:9: “Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before unknown men,” (NKJV).
Excellence is the quality of being outstanding or extremely good. It is being the very best at something. Excellence is a quality that people really appreciate, because it is not common. Excellence is a better way of doing things. Excellence is magnetic because it makes you preferred than others. In Daniel 6:3, Daniel was preferred above other officials because an excellent spirit was in him and the king made him ruler of the entire kingdom.
Excellence is a spirit and every child of God should earnestly covet to possess the spirit of excellence. 1Corinthians 12:31 says: “But covet earnestly the best gifts and yet shew 1 unto you a more excellent way.” Don’t always stick to the old ways of doing things because there are better ways of doing things. You need to unlearn to relearn to be an excellent person.
Excellence is a quality mindset and everywhere it is found, quantity is attracted. Excellence honours God and inspires men. Matthew 5:16 says: “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works, and glorify your father which is in Heaven.” Excellence is not an accident; there are processes that make excellence achievable and sustainable. Excellence is an attitude you cultivate over time. It is projecting what makes you unique, bringing it out so that people will identify you. It makes you stand out anywhere you may be found. Excellence attracts people and do not take it for granted.
God sent Samuel to the house of Jesse to anoint one of his sons as the new King of Israel for He had rejected King Saul. When Prophet Samuel arrived there, he was almost carried away by the physical appearance of Eliab, one of the sons of Jesse to anoint him king instead of David. The Bible said in 1Samuel 16:6: “That he looked on Eliab, and said, surely the Lord’s anointed is before him.”
People are attracted to a person who does his job or renders a service excellently. An excellent person will keep having more job referrals from persons who have used his service. One reason people don’t come back to a church after their first visit is that they don’t like the place. A descent church environment will attract more worshippers. Personal excellence has to do with creating boundaries, especially when dealing with opposite sex.
In 2Corinthians 11:2, Paul said: “For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.”
Excellence is not a matter of your location. You can be an excellent person wherever you may find yourself. Autograph your work with excellence. Put your personal stamp of quality on everything you do by always striving for the highest standard and committing to doing your best in every task. Excellence is the pursuit of higher standards, that is raising the bar of excellence. We must make a choice for excellence. Define your standard and make up your mind that you are not shooting for average.
Daniel purposed in his heart that as good as the standard in the palace of the king of Babylon was, that standard was not good enough for him. Daniel decided he was going to go on a higher standard. He purposed in his heart that he will not compromise to function at the level or standard that the world around him functioned at. You can be determined to surpass the organisation’s standards – that is the best way to function in an organisation.
