Go and sell – Part 3

People that create wealth rule over people who don’t create wealth. 90 per cent of wealth are on the side of business owners.

Key verse:2 Kings 4:2: “Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, ‘Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest,’” (KJV).

People that create wealth rule over people who don’t create wealth. 90 per cent of wealth are on the side of business owners. Proverbs 22:7 says: “The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.” 88 percent of millionaires are entrepreneurs. Prophet Elisha instructed the poor widow who ran to him for help to go and sell, so that, she can make money and live a life free from debt. The instruction was for her to start selling something. In other words, she should start a business. Starting a business is being able to organise a system for the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services.

A business is simply a system for the production, distribution and consumption of good and services. Starting a business is one of the ways to create wealth. God has given us the capacity to invent or create wealth says Deuteronomy 8:18. Nobody should be seen idle and doing nothing because God has given each of us the capacity to start something and nurture it to grow.

Nigeria major source of wealth is oil, but there are many sources of wealth yet untapped. As of December 2023, Nigeria’s population was estimated at around 226.2 million. These 226 million people have basic needs to be met on a daily basis and everybody despises them and goes for money from one resource (oil). Nigeria is a powerful market waiting to be awakened. Now, you can take a fraction of the people’s need in your environment and proffer solutions to them. That is how to start selling something to others. You need to be clear about what you want to sell to the people. Don’t just start a business, start a business that will solve the problems of people around you. Be the one providing the products and services. Be the one making the money. Don’t always be the one spending money. Identify the needs that fit your gifts, skills and values. You are already wired to meet certain needs, just find them and be willing to start small. Don’t fall into the trap of this deceptive thinking around that you must start big. Start small and grow gradually.

Begging is not a valid strategy out of poverty. The fact you expect people to dash you money without expecting to do anything goes against the Law of Exchange.Nature exhibits a dynamic drive towards the equilibrium. In economics, equilibrium means balance and nature exhibits a drive towards balance. If balance is broken, any situation in which equilibrium does not exist is not sustainable. The law of nature is that anything you do not respect is on its way out of your life.

So, for people to be dashing you money without you providing value cannot be sustained because they may not give you tomorrow.

The law of exchange is that value must exchange hands for a sustainable system to develop long-term. At every point in time, the society places a premium on something. If you study civilisation, in the olden days, the strongest men were the people that governed in the cave because the paradigm was can a man provide security for the wife and children? Today, the society places premium on value and the men who create more value are on top of any profession. You are paid in return of the value that you give. We should be value driven and value conscious.
