Go and sell – Part 2
The marketplace rewards value and not just effort. Real money is not cash, but intangible resources. You must give something of value in exchange of financial reward. “Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt” was the instruction Prophet Elisha gave to the poor widow as a way out of debt and life of penury. Some people would have expected Elisha to call down money from heaven, but he did not. God is a God of principles. Life runs on the wheels of principles and the Bible contains codes or principles of success. Elisha instructed the poor widow to go and sell the oil. You have to do something to get out of poverty. You got to work your way out of poverty. It is not by mere wish, but taking strategic steps. You have a product or a service inside of you to sell.
“Selling” is defined by the Cambridge Dictionary as “the activity of making products and services available, so that, people can buy them.”
Don’t just start a business, start a business that will solve the problems of people around you. Be the one providing the products and services. Be the one making the money. For example, some yearsback a medical doctor was shown on the national T.V running a ‘bukka,’ what is popularly known as ‘Mama Put’ (restaurant). He was asked why bukka and he said, he observed there was no good eating place in that area and he decided to locate a bukka for people to buy good food. Your products or services should solve human problems. The current generation of business owners and entrepreneurs in Nigeria are largely focusing on segments which have already been discovered and now overcrowded. We need to think completely differently to find these untapped business ideas and be able to address the market needs and timely execute on it, without getting influenced by the existing noise.
Don’t ever think that success must come by selling something big. For the poor widow, it was just a jar of oil left in her house, but that jar of oil metamorphosed into something big that she was not only able to pay her debt, but also lived a debt-free life throughout the time she lived.
What is your jar of oil? It could be that one thousand naira note left in your pocket. How come the product called Chocolate, which is just a product from cocoa is more valuable in the world more than cocoa itself? The total value of chocolate is10 times the value of cocoa. You can’t go to Netherlands without buying Chocolate.
Ejiofor, business coach and strategist One of the biggest companies in Nigeria is Cadbury and their best-selling product is “Tom Tom,” which is currently sold 3 or 4 wraps for N100. What is your Tom Tom? God created man as an answer to problems and that is why He deployed man to earth to continue the work of creation. You are created as an answer to a problem. Be the one selling to others. There is no better time to start selling. The best time to start is now. Take a step and start doing something with your jar of oil. Partner with God and you will experience all-round increase and multiplication.
